Todd
Zimberg has worked in the Puget Sound region as a drummer,
percussionist and educator for more than 20 years. He has performed locally with Isaac
Scott, Duffy Bishop, Jumbalassy and for 10 years with NW blues
legend Tom McFarland. He has appeared regularly with national
acts, including The Coats, The Amazing Platters, Sam Andrew, Big
Brother and the Holding Company, Bo Diddley, the late Fenton
Robinson among others.
On his home Vashon Island, Todd is a member of the Island Jazz
Quintet as well as the Portage Fill-Harmonic Big Band. He also
maintains a practice in private instruction, has worked as an
Artist in Residence in the Vashon Schools as well as for the
Washington State Arts Commission. He created and directs
a summer youth percussion camp that is now in its 11th year.
Earning
a Masters in Percussion from the University of Washington in 1998, Todd currently teaches instrumental
music at Seattle Academy, and Rock, Jazz, and World Music courses at Highline Community College.
Todd instructed the Auburn High School Marching Band Drumline for 7 seasons, and has been Timpanist
with the Federal Way Symphony
since 1989. With a strong background in jazz, Todd started his
own group, TZT (Todd Zimberg Trio) after moving to Vashon Island
in 1990. In the course of performing there, he met the island
musicians who would later form the Island Jazz Quintet.
